Hi friends! Today I've got a fun little collection of movies that are in one of my personal favorite subgenres - "hot pink horror", otherwise known as horror media with themes centered around feminine rage, moral-blurring, often toxic close friendships, & the female experience.
Jennifer's Body is a perfect example of this, with its subversion of different typically misogynistic themes via the creation of a beautiful, popular, man-eating succubus. Not only does Jennifer's plight qualify for the genre, but her best friend Needy's journey does, too. Going from nerdy side-kick to demon-defying badass, as well as their close (sometimes sexual) relationship as best friends, there are multiple boxes to be checked within Karyn Kusama & Diablo Cody's 2009 cult classic that solidify its place among other "hot pink horror" favorites.
So let's get into some of those other movies now! I won't go into a full description of these, because I think some are best to experience as you go. That said, they do share some common themes: emotionally charged depictions of friendships and morally grey women.
The Neon Demon (2016)
