I’m so excited for the weather to be warming up slightly - although I’m in no way looking forward to the heat of summer while living in the city, let me tell you! But I am excited for putting a bit more of a cottagecore-y lean on life, ie trying to maybe bake some bread or even maybe making a fresh little soup; stuff I could’ve done during the winter months, but didn’t because those are meant for rest (when possible).
Now that the energy is coming back into the world around me via new life and growth, I’m feeling a bit more energized myself - especially in regards to my reading! So I went with nearly 10 books here, which may seem a little overenthusiastic, but I have faith in myself and my spring plans!
#1 - DAUGHTERS UNTO DEVILS by Amy Lukavics
A young adult historical horror about a pregnancy-gone-wrong (I think?), I’ve had this on my shelf as well as another book by the same author that I didn’t include in the photo but am planning to read this season because they’re both pretty short and seem fairly entertaining so far. I’m actually about 30 pages into Daughters right now and am enjoying it — it’s got sort of like THE WITCH vibes almost.
#2 - THE ECHO WIFE by Sarah Gailey
A science fiction thriller about cloned wives getting revenge on their cheating husband by one of my favorite authors? Sign me up. I’m honestly surprised I haven’t read this one before now, but I am pushing it way up on my list because it sounds very intriguing and I love everything else I’ve read by Gailey in the past.
#3 - THE KAIJU PRESERVATION SOCIETY by John Scalzi
I actually started this one over a year ago but only got a little into it, although I can’t remember why. I’m very much looking forward to getting back to it — who wouldn’t want to read a story about a group of people sent to literally preserve & care for giant, otherworldly creatures?
#4 - A GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER by Holly Jackson
I realized they’d made an adaptation of this book series that I own all 3 books of but have never read, so I need to change that right away. I’ve heard it has Veronica Mars vibes, which is exactly the kind of thing I’d LOVE reading.
#5 - EMILY WILDE’S ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF FAERIES by Heather Fawcett
I recently picked up the pretty special edition copies of this & the sequel from Barnes & Noble, so I’m excited to read both of them soon - what better time than Spring?
#6 - THE INVOCATIONS by Krystal Sutherland
I loved House of Hollow when I read it a month or so ago - it’s genuinely one of my favorite books in recent memory! When I heard she’d written another one even more recently, I sought it out immediately. I had my heart set on the fancy hardcover of it, but then I saw the paperback with the creepy goth-y ghost hand and was too obsessed to not get it. One of my most anticipated books on this list, honestly!
#7 - ADRIFT IN CURRENTS CLEAN AND CLEAR by Seanan McGuire
The latest book in Seanan McGuire’s WAYWARD CHILDREN series, which is my most favorite book series in the world and I am super excited for this one especially since it features a character and world that I’ve been dying to learn more about since very early on!
#8 - SWORDHEART by T. Kingfisher
T. Kingfisher is a consistent hit for me writing and story-wise, although this will be my first fantasy focused book rather than more horror-leaning things. I’m very much looking forward to it - I’ve heard the main character & love interest are both great and very well written!
#9 - BUTCHER & BLACKBIRD by Brynne Weaver
A serial killer romance? I know it sounds weird, but I’ve had this on my TBR for awhile and am VERY much looking forward to listening to the audiobook soon, since that’s what my friends recommended I read this as.
